Teng Hong's 2009 Second Semester Assessment Report

Finally the six year old assessment report was handed out to mummy at a teacher-parent meeting last night.

The test results are as follows:
(First semester is written in red and second semester is written in green)

  • English : 100%, 96%
  • Bahasa Malaysia : 99%, 88%
  • Chinese : 93%, 84%
  • Numbers : 70%, 65%

He is doing quite well in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Chinese. Though he scored less, because of his careless mistakes especially in Bahasa Malaysia and Numbers and because the second semester’s exams are much more difficult; daddy and mummy are quite happy with the languages results. The Numbers (mathematic) result is far below mummy’s expectation. He made so many careless mistakes! He got 65% only, scores in his class range from 40%+ to 90%+. Teachers said he did his test very slow, so during the last minutes he might be distracted by the friends who had finished doing the exam.

According to his Bahasa, Chinese & Numbers teachers, lately he is very playful and talkative in class and as a result he can’t focus at all, even worse than before. He is also very slow in writing; they have to wait for him to write his name in the spelling test, huh!

His English teacher said “She is very happy with Teng Hong’s improvement”. His blends, spelling, reading skill have improved a lot. He is one of the good readers! But in class, he is still restless, can’t focus!

“Han Yi Pin Yin” teacher commented, “Teng Hong improves a lot in his recent exam, he can do it independently”. This teacher also told mummy that “Teng Hong is actually a smart boy; he can absorb lessons quickly when he is focused!”

The problem is “This boy is hardly able to concentrate!”

Any advice how to stretch his attention span? How to make him act faster? Or maybe we should just wait for him to grow out of it.

This semester Teng Hong doesn’t hit the target given by daddy and mummy, “Score 85% or above for all the subjects”, so he is going to miss the “Ultimate Ben 10 Omnitrix” or “Deluxe Ben 10 Omnitrix” as his coming birthday present!

Last night when mummy came back from the teacher-parent meeting, he was so excited to know his test results; later he was a bit disappointed when mummy told him he can’t get his dream Omnitrix!

Mummy can see at such a young age he still doesn’t understand what all those scores mean! He only knows there is exam and he has to do well. Other than that, in his mind is “ALL ABOUT PLAY!”

Daddy who just came back from outstation today had a look at all Teng Hong’s test papers. He is quite happy with the results and told mummy, "don't take it too serious!"

Still, his result is ok..why don't reward him something small?

Hi Chanel, you are right, we will reward him something but not the one he requested, "Ultimate or Deluxe Ben 10 Omnitrix".

Mumsgather & Mummy to QiQi,
Yes, agree with you, it's really tough especially the Numbers and Chinese papers.

Without doing any book revision at home, I am sure the children will definitely get trouble on the test.

Anyway kids being kids, they will just take it easy. :)

Hi Martini, wow! He sure one smart kid....my mom used to get, "your son has not much hope, no future.." very often, ha ha.
And from standard 4 onwards, I never went above 60% (except English)...maths always borderline at 51%, ha ha.....
Have a nice day, Lee.

Hi Uncle Lee,

Thanks for compliment to Teng Hong.
And you have proved them wrong!

not good in school doesn't mean "no future". Many of ex-schoolmates proved that too.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

haaa.. the test paper looks very difficult for a six year old. It makes me worried whether to start my 3.5 old ziyi to kindie next year, or wait until she is 4.5...

The result might not be perfect, but's that's above average which is very good already... :)

Hi Linda,
I just came back from Medan yesterday, a very nice trip, eat most of my favorite foods there, hehe...

hmmm, I had registered my 3.5 year old girl to kindie next year. Nowadays, a lot of working parents start their kids as young as 2yo+.

At first my hubby said wait until she is 4.5 yo but I don't want to wait anymore since she can absorb quite fast so just let her socialise and learn more at kindie. Children learn fast at the first few years of life!
