A Visitor in the Night

Monday, 20th April 2009

It was about 3.30am when hubby yelled at me while I was in my beauty sleep, asking me to switch on the light! I was a bit shocked and quickly on the light; I saw him trying to trap something with his blanket. It was a centipede, about two inches in length.

Without thinking much, I passed an air-conditioner remote control, the nearest thing I could get to hubby and while he was pressing on the centipede with the remote control, I then got an envelope for him to put it in so I could take it out from the bedroom.

Luckily hubby woke up when he felt something’s crawling on him and managed to catch it. I just could not imagine how if the centipede runs away, crawls on the kids and bites them.

Thanks God it’s not happened!

This has made me recall the incident happened more than ten years ago! A big centipede crawled on me and bit my hand while I was sleeping, caused pain and swelling. I woke up because of the pain and could feel the centipede crawled away from my body. The movement was very fast, I can still remember the feeling of those legs until now. The worst I could not manage to catch it at that time and I had to stay awake the rest of that night trying to find it.

That explained how scared I am of this creature!

Learn to Read

Teng Hong has been able to read books with few and simple words before he turned five. Mummy introduced him some books like: “Peter and Jane”, “Odonata Chinese books” and “Disney’s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse”. Though he’s still not able to read some of the words, he shows good progress in learning to read and from there later he gets interested in reading comics. Every time we go to shopping he will ask us to bring him to the bookstore. The first comic we bought for him was Doraemon (Chinese version). Of course he is still not able to read the sentences completely; most of the time he will only browse the pictures. It’s so difficult to find a suitable comic for him.

Lately he likes to read from the computer. Everyday after school, he will go to starfall.com to learn to read from the site.

Starfall.com is a free website where children can have fun learning to read in English! Mummy’s friend Angela introduced this site last year. It started from ABC’s till I’m Reading and there are many more to learn, like: calendar, color, counting, shape, etc.

Xin Yi who is going to turn three this coming June also joins the kor-kor to learn. She learns the ABCs and likes to have fun with some other programs, like Snowman and Gingerbread man. Now she is able to control the computer’s mouse; she knows how to point, click or drag the objects and this has made her getting more interested in exploring the site.

For those with children who are learning to read, it’s worth to visit Starfall.

This is not a paid post! Just want to share ...

Simple Healthy Salad

Yesterday, as usual, we had our outing at shopping mall. We had our breakfast at the food court then let the kids played at the play land and toy shop for a while before proceeded to do our shopping.

After spent some time at MPH bookstore we then went to Carrefour (in the shopping mall) because mummy needed to check on something there. It’s quite crowded and there were many promoters introduced the food products. We tried a few samples and were surprised when our boy who never liked vegetables said that he liked to eat the salad, he even asked the promoter to give him some more.

At the end we went home with lettuce, cherry tomatoes plus Thousand Island dressing and had our salad party!

It’s the first time our boy wished to eat vegetables. How we wish he can do that everyday :)

We’re Back

We just returned from mummy’s hometown, Medan a few days ago. It’s a two-week trip and we all enjoyed it very much. This time, we managed to visit “Danau Toba” (Lake Toba) and “Pantai Cermin”. They’re worth to visit; the kids were so happy playing in the water. Will blog about the trip later.
