His First Tae Kwon-Do Exam

According to Wikipedia, Tae Kwon-Do is a Korean martial art, which may be loosely translated as “the way of the foot and the fist” or “the way of kicking and punching”. It combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport, exercise, meditation and philosophy.

Mummy enrolled Teng Hong in Tae Kwon-Do class at a nearby Chinese Primary School November last year. The main purpose is to let him mix around and exercise; then slowly help him to learn to concentrate, self-discipline, confidence and respect. Teng Hong is a timid boy especially when he is put in a group of children who are mainly older than him. It takes time to warm him up; he will usually only mix around with kids about his age.

At the first few months he joined the Tae Kwon-Do class, he hardly talked / played with other children. Together with another boy who was also 5 year old, they were the youngest in the group.

Teng Hong who likes Ultraman very much thought the kicking and punching in Tae Kwon-Do resembles the Ultraman action, so he is interested in learning it. But after some time he started to get bored and refuse to go at times. Mummy has to encourage him, sometimes reasoning him otherwise he would just stand at the side and watch his friends practice only.

After more than half a year joined the Tae Kwon-Do, although he is still not able to focus on the practice or follow his Sir’s instructions, there are improvement in his attitude, socialization and gross motor skill development. He has better balance, not cry so much and mix around with more children.

Finally after eleven months of practice, on October 10th he followed the exam to progress to a higher grade, White Belt with Yellow Stripe. It was his first Tae Kwan-Do exam! He passed it and last Saturday he proudly showed me the Yellow Stripe on his White Belt.

Keep up the good work, my dear!

Charter on Demand

Watching movies is one of my hubby’s favorite activities. Every time when he is free, he will definitely switch on the movie. Lately he likes to watch the manga or anime series, like: Naruto, Bleach, Avatar, Dragon-ball, etc. which at first he bought for the kids to watch, but instead of the kids, he is the one who gets addicted. He will sometimes watch it at TV channel or Youtube but most of the time when he couldn’t wait or miss the show he will go and buy the DVD which cost him a lump sum of money.

I just get to know about Charter On Demand up until somewhat recently. It’s free to access. There are more than 6000 movies and shows available for you to watch anytime you want. The favorite shows, like: Heroes, 30 Rock, The Office, or kid’s movies, like: Barney, Tom & Jerry, Dora, SpongeBob which my kids love very much. HD (High Definition) shows are also available.

It’s just a click away! Isn’t it so easy?

Ondemand

I am going to tell hubby about this service and learn more at charter.net/ondemand. It will definitely save him a lot of money.

Anyway, we can also get updates and fun extras on Charter’s Facebook page.

Daddy’s Birthday & 2nd Blog Anniversary

Four days ago was daddy’s birthday but unfortunately he was outstation so we didn’t celebrate it. On that morning, mummy, Teng Hong and Xin Yi sent a birthday wish to daddy and later called him in the evening. He told us he got a birthday cake from the hotel where he stayed. :)

We had a brunch at Fong Lye Restaurant, The Gardens, Mid Valley on the Sunday before daddy left. It is a Taiwan restaurant which accepts payment in cash term only. We ordered Sweet Potato Ball, Taiwan Glutinous Rice Sausage, Fresh Tomato Fried Egg with Fish and Seafood Fried Noodle. The food taste good and suit our taste buds (include the kids), but the price is a bit high.

In fact, this was the third time we had our meal there.

Sweet Potato Ball (some already been taxed by the kids), RM 5.30

Seafood Fried Noodle, RM 17.80

Fresh Tomato Fried Egg with Fish (set meal), RM 19.80

At the same day, it was mummy's blog’s 2nd anniversary. Mummy started it two years ago but due to time limitations, it is updated only once in a while.

In this opportunity, mummy would like to thank all this blog’s readers and also those who leave such nice and helpful comments. Mummy appreciates them so much.

Happy Blogging!

Kangoo Modified for “Life-Saver”

“Goothering” of Kangoo Club Malaysia (KCM) was back last Sunday at A&W Drive Thru PJ (Petaling Jaya). There were about ten of them and the focus was more on Allan & Helen’s Kangoo where the Kangoo was modified to fit Allan’s Powered Wheel-Chair.

They bought the Kangoo in its original design and took it out for modification. It needed five months to complete the modification.

A Family Day Event

Last Saturday hubby’s office organized a Family Day event. It was held at one of the managers’ house at Bukit Tunku. We reached there around 5pm, not many families there yet. Teng Hong and Xin Yi were so excited when they saw some children playing in the swimming pool. Too bad, the pool is too deep for them otherwise they would have jumped into the water!

We chit-chatted with some other families while waiting for others to arrive; some of them got lose and had to go round and round to look for the so-called “jungle house”. We then had a buffet dinner and while having dinner the kids were entertained by the clown who just arrived. Each child was given a choice and he made balloons sculpting for them.

There was also a comedy magic show where the kids were fully entertained by the clown for almost one hour.

After having a great time there, we finally left the house at around 8.20pm.
This was the first time ever we attended such an event and on the way home, Teng Hong has already asked daddy: "When can he attend another same event?"

Mid Autumn Festival 2009

Mid Autumn Festival, also known as Lantern Festival or Mooncake Festival is held on the 15th day of the eight month in the Chinese calendar, which is usually around late September or early October in the solar calendar. This year it fell on 3rd October.

To celebrate the festival, a day before the actual day we had dinner together with brother-in-law, sister-in-law and their families at a nearby Chinese restaurant, Carol’s Place. After that we went home to let the kids played with the lanterns. They carried the brightly lit lanterns for a short while before all were hung up!

They then lighted up the candles, sang the Happy Birthday song and having fun blew the candles… That’s how the kids celebrated Mid Autumn Festival, haha!

The next day, after came back from celebrating Family day at daddy’s colleague’s jungle house, Teng Hong and Xin Yi played with the lanterns again. This time we invited Anjella (Teng Hong’s ex classmate at Tadika Bethany) and her mum to join us. They are from Philippines and never seen this festival before!

As part of the celebration, besides played lanterns we also ate some mooncakes. This year we bought about ten mooncakes which most of them were finished up by Teng Hong. He loves mooncakes so much!
