Their New Milestones – Going to Kindie/Primary School

Finally Xin Yi is going to kindie this year. She is 3 ½ years old. Last Wednesday (6 January 2010) was her first day of kindie. She was so excited! Arrived at kindie, I told her that I would park the car and take her to her class but I was so surprised when she told me that she didn’t need me, she would go in with her teacher. So I just dropped her and went to fill in petrol, after that I went back to see her. She looked happy playing with the food and cooking toys, so I just monitored her from far away. She noticed me about half an hour later and smiled to me.

Since everything was alright, I went to have breakfast and go back an hour later. The teachers entertained them with puppets, they then sang songs and one of the teachers played guitar for them until it was time to line up to go home. It was the end of her first day of kindie. I was so surprised and happy that my clingy and timid girl didn’t cry at all!

Xin Yi's first day of kindie

The second day onwards she was all by her own! I only need to send her to kindie and pick her up later. When I checked with her teachers, they said: “She was OK, so far she didn’t cry!” This is good news as she is a timid girl who always tags along with me almost everywhere I go since she was a baby.

Well done, Xin Yil! That's great!

As for Teng Hong, he finally goes to Chinese Primary School after three years in kindie. His first comment when he woke up at the first day of his school: “Mummy, why we go to school at night?” Yeah, in Malaysia the sky still looks damn dark at 6.30 am, so no wonder he asked that question as he never went to school so early in the morning. I laughed inside me and pitied him at the same time.

I accompanied him to his new school until time to go home for the first day but most of the time I quietly monitored him. Once in a while I would go to survey other places and also had breakfast at the opposite coffee shop. I noticed that a few of the new students cried.

At the first day of school, Teng Hong looked happy, he met a few of his kindie friends, three of them are in the same class with him. In less than five minutes his teacher started to speak in front of the class, he already made trouble; he was drawing something instead of paying attention to the teacher, so the teacher walked to him and told him nicely to stop his work. Later when I met the teacher, she also commented that Teng Hong can’t sit still, not focused and can’t line up properly.

Oh my boy, at the first day of school, your class teacher already noticed you!

At the second day of school, I only accompanied him for about two hours. Later when I went back to see him, I saw him cried, telling his teacher that he wanted mummy. After told him that I would come to pick him up after school hours, I left him.

On the third day onwards I only accompany him to his class and then go back home to send Xin Yi to kindie. Once in a while, he would ask mummy to stay back, but I told him teacher won’t allow. He complained that the school hours are too long, from 7.30am to about 1.00pm and he missed mummy. What to do?

So far he starts to adapt with the new environment, just hope that he will get use to the new school system soon.

Long Winter nights, short days.
You girl looks real cute that pic. And lovethe way your son poses. An Army sergeant would be proud of him, ha ha.
Have fun and keep well, Lee.

She's brave and save you all the worries. For my son, it's afternoon session for Primary 1.

Hi Chin Nee,
That's her home clothing. When they first join the kindie, they will be trained to wear their own smocks at kindie.
